Ben Hanks Racing

Article written by Dr. Jones

Date Added: 10/28/2007

When the time came for us to get an OX Super 44 kit installed in the rear axle of one of our project Jeeps, we started looking around for a local shop up to the task.

The Super 44 locker is a unique animal and installs differently than a normal Dana 44 full-carrier locker. So our first challenge, and screening process, was to find a shop that even knew there was a difference. Lucky for us, we found a guy named Ben Hanks with a little shop in Sandy City, Utah that at the time had just barely opened for business.
Not only did Ben know the difference between and Super Dana 44 and a regular Dana 44, he had personally installed several Super 44 kits. Not only that, the guys on his crew at Ben Hanks Racing also had extensive experience with the big boy, 33 spline Dana 44s.
Ben Hanks opened the shop with his brother and employs a host of other off road experts and experienced fabricators. Ben alone has been actively involved in the off road community and industry for 15 years. He has worked as a mechanic and custom fabricator, and he has competed professionally in rockcrawling for several years.
Ben has a love for all kinds of motor sports and doesn?t limit his business to rockcrawling alone. Much of his clientele when his shop was first getting going was actually guys from the mini truck scene wanting help with their custom suspension setups. His shop also does a lot of work in the off road racing arena with sand rails and Baja style buggies.
No job is too big or too small for Ben Hanks Racing. Whether you need a set of wheels and tires mounted on your rig, a ring and pinion setup, a custom roll cage perfectly fit to your interior, or a complete custom made turn-key rock buggy; give Ben a call and he will gladly accommodate.
They also stock a large line of products such as rod ends, limiting straps, beadlock rings, and various bracketry for those of you doing your own work. Oh, and let?s not forget the leather couch and two plasma TVs if you feel like sticking around for a while picking up your parts.

Final Thoughts

All of the work done at Ben?s shop is top notch. The day we spent with the guys there shooting pictures for our OX Super 44 was a true pleasure. All the employees there are obviously experts in their field, but they?re also some of the nicest down-to-earth guys we have had the pleasure of dealing with.

Ben Hanks Racing gets our endorsement as THE place in Utah to get your gears done as well as any custom fab work.

Our Thank You's!

MOABJEEPER Magazine would like to thank Ben and his crew for doing an awesome job installing our OX locker. After a few thousand miles and several Moab trips, we haven?t had a peep from the rear end.
