Olympic Rock Bumper

Article written by Dr. Jones

Date Added: 08/06/2007

Whether you're running a body mounted tire carrier or looking to add a swing-out tire carrier when you save the pennies, the Olympic Rock Bumper has your butt covered.

The Olympic Rock Bumper offers excellent protection as a stand-alone rear bumper, and it can easily be turned into a swing-out tire carrier with a simple bolt-on addition.

Installation

1. Start by removing the stock rear bumper.

2. First remove the plastic side pieces by removing the torx screws on top and bottom.

3. With the plastic pieces removed, you now have access to the bolts holding the stock bumper on. Remove these bolts and take off the bumper.
Liberal use of PB Blaster may be necessary.

4. If equipped, remove the factory trailer hitch.

5. Now it's time be begin pre-assembling the new bumper by attaching the mounting brackets to the holes in the bottom of the bumper.
Get the bots finger tight but not torqued. You will need some slop to properly line up the holes.

6. Slide the new Olympic rear bumper into place.

7. Put on the washers, and start the nuts on the bolts to hold the bumper in place.

8. Start the bolts through the bumper brackets into the bottom of the frame.

9. When everything is properly lined up, torque all the bolts down.

10. You're new Olympic Rock Bumper is now installed. Yup, it's that easy!

Installation Issues

The one thing the instructions weren't perfectly clear on is which holes to put the brackets in. This is barely an issue, but it's worth mentioning. Just use the outermost holes as shown in our picture, and you'll be fine.

Final Thoughts

This was one of the easiest installs we've done on a Jeep. All the holes lined up perfectly, the fit was right on, and the supplied instructions were very easy to follow. The chrome color of the bumper looks great with the blue of the Jeep and is a nice contrast to all the other black bumpers on the market. On top of all that, this bumper is Solid! It has already more than paid for itself by saving the corner panels of the Jeep on several occasions in Moab.
