PMP Front Bumper ? Winch Ready

Article written by Moab Man

Date Added: 05/05/2007

Accessories and up-grades, such as bumpers, can give your vehicle a tough and stylish look.

After mounting a winch on the stock bumper, we realized it was time to get serious about the Jeep?s front end durability. We chose to beef-up with a chrome-black powder coated, winch-ready, front bumper from PMP. This bumper offers high clearance to attack those large obstacles while giving full fender protection that stubby rockcrawling bumpers don?t.

Installation

1. Remove all the Torx bolts on the top and bottom of the stock bumper.
The tow hooks will also be removed with the Torx bolts.

2. Slide the stock bumper off the front of the frame rails.

3. PMP bumper?s bolt pattern matches the three mounting points at the end of each frame rail (2 top and 1 bottom).

4. Work the new bumper into place on the frame rails, and align the bolt holes.

5. Using the hardware provided, start by screwing in the four top bolts; but don?t torque them yet.
Do yourself a favor and use the supplied hex-head hardware rather than reusing the factory Torx bolts.

6. Start the remaining two bolts in the mounting points at the bottom of the bumper. Torque all the bolts.

7. The bumper is now completely installed and ready for use with or without a winch.

Final Thoughts

PMP front bumper design has a deliberate fit, preeminent strength, and a smart look. It was an easy install with no fabrication required. The winch plate is dropped 2 ¾? for a clean look with a winch installed. The bumper weights 70 pounds with two pre-fabricated tabs for auxiliary lights and D-ring brackets.

As you can see in our picture, we have installed a 9500lb Mile Marker winch. Once we have plenty of trail time and winch use, we will report back.
