Lite N' Boltz

For sometime you have wanted to have flush mounted taillights (LED or Military lights).  One of the problems you will run into is license plate lighting. As most of you know, the law requires that the license plate be illuminated. 

In researching how to solve this problem, I visited many Auto parts stores looking for just the right set-up. I had found so many types out there. Most of the license plate lights I found were bigger than what I was looking for. Since my flush mounted taillights had a real clean look, I was hoping to find a way to not detract from them. Here are some that I had found.

After a week of looking I finally found a light that fit the bill for both a clean look and functionality. They are called Lite N? Boltz. Wow what a great idea.  The lights come in an acorn style with an integrated nut or dome style. I opted for the dome style.


1. I decided to use the stock license plate mount. On the TJ this is a hollow plastic mounting plate.

2. I drilled through both sides using a drill that match the Lite N? Boltz thread diameter.
 The hole on the back side of the mount has to be drilled big enough so you can tighten the nut on the bolt. I used a paddle style drill bit.

3. Feed the wires through and tighten the Lite n? Boltz in place.   
 It is very important that you tighten the nut on the back of the Lite n? Boltz only, if you spin the front of them, the wires will get twisted

4. If you are not going to use the stock mount, drill the holes where you would like your license plate to be, and use the Lite n? Boltz to bolt it in place.

5. The wires on the lights are about 6? long, so you will have to add more wire to reach your power source and ground. It doesn?t matter which wire on the Lite N' Boltz you use for positive or negative.

6. On a TJ, the wiring harness for the taillights is located behind the rear bumper and in front of the gas tank. The white wire coming out of the taillight assembly is for the parking light. Splice into it. This gives you your 12v power source that only works when you turn on the parking/head lights.

7. For the ground, I located an existing grounding wire that was attached to the frame right in the same area.
 Ensure that you tape or use heat shrink tubing on all the connections to keep them waterproof.

8. This is how they look after dark. As you can see the lighting is more than ample and the look is very clean.

Final Thoughts

How would I rate this install, very easy. Time involved was less than a hour. Quality of the lights is top of the line.
